Patriots All

On Saturday we went up to a stretch of Highway 12 and stood curbside with 300 other Sonoma patriots to participate in a local No Kings demonstration.  American flags.  Inventive placards (favorites included The Constitution is not a Suggestion and I Demonstrate Because I am a Patriot and Truck Fump).  The passing drivers tooted and waved flags and held up V-signs or thumbs-up.  Several counter-demonstrators in pickup trucks stuck their middle fingers in the air.  Oh, well .  .  .  all opinions welcome.  Sonoma folks also demonstrated up in the Springs and along Broadway by the Plaza.  Maybe 1,000 or 1,200 in all.

STANDING DEMONSTRATORS

I happened to butt dial my pal Euie and caught him and his wife Cordy at the Larkspur Ferry Terminal with a thousand No Kings folks who assembled there — one of eight sites in Marin County.

It felt good, and heartening, to stand with fellow patriots across the land and say No to the odious apparatus in our Executive Branch which is doing its frantic best to dismantle programs that help the poor in our nation, to snatch from the streets the immigrants who pick our fruit and build our homes, to gut USAID and all the good it does in the world, and to hoist our nation’s debt into the many trillions by cutting taxes on billionaires.

Enough already.

Jane and I kick in monthly contributions to NPR and to several organizations supporting Democratic legislative candidates .  .  . not as satisfying as exercising our patriotic duty street-side.
